Mumbai Meri Jaaan!!!

What makes a good City? Might be a meaningless question! And have u ever felt Mumbai an idle city!!!Might feel it to be like a stinking zoo! Still this mixture of cultures are forever a wonder.

Now talking about Mumbai being mere jaan is something which walked into my mind while writing an essay on urbanism and city making. It is a common feeling that most urban places are less than satisfactory-uncomfortable, ugly, or dull-as if they were being measured on some absolute scale. Only fragments of the settled world are generally suburb, a fine park, a historic town, the vital center of some great city, an old farming region.

The elements in the city can be linked with other events and places in a coherent mental representation of time and space and that representation can be connected with non-spatial concepts and values.
The difficulty in representing Mumbai now is that there is always a feeling that such representations may fall into one of the several limitations of reading the city linearly. These limitations f linearity include making gross generalizations or getting lost in seductive micro-narratives or constructing incredible scenarios.

walking in and around the city always tickled my senses.Senses depends on spatial form and quality based on the culture, temperament, status, experience and current purpose of the observer. The smell of Mumbai! As pointed out in Shantaram, the smell of thousand temples, churches, mosques ,hundreds of bazaars and yes the smell “paan” which makes me feel am back home right away when I step into Mumbai!

Which other city can give you this feeling.. A city lighted up welcoming you anytime, any day changing your life route to a different destiny. Any state ,caste, color or good, bad we are her kids!

MUMBAI MERI JAAN!
